What is “Pit-Crew”

The “Pit Crew” are the volunteers that help move, setup and remove pit equipment and/or props for marching band  and winter guard/drumline competitions/performances.  This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in boosting and witness your child’s musical development.

Pit equipment are the stationary music instruments and gear typically at the front of the performance venue.  Pit equipment includes; Marimbas, Bells, Vibraphones, Synthesizers, Samplers, Amplifiers/Speakers, Gongs, Bass Drums and Chimes.

Working as a member of the pit crew you will be involved in:

  • Moving pit equipment from equipment truck to practice/staging areas, onto the performance venue and back to the equipment trucks.
  • Helping pit members arrange equipment prior to show.
  • Transportation and setup of drum major’s platform.
  • Helping with water coolers and distributing snacks during breaks.

Members of the pit crew get free admission to the events (football games and competitions) that they are volunteering at.  As such, there is typically a limited number of openings available for the pit crew.

You should be able to perform physical activities in warm to hot weather.  Marching Band competitions are typically done during the day and may involve moving equipment some pretty good distances.  For competitions bring a hat, sunscreen and drink plenty of water because you’ll most likely be in and out of this sun for several hours.
